Schavemaker's policy is entirely customer-driven. Starting out as road transporters, we have expanded to include intermodal transport and we are very pleased to calculate the most favourable solution for our customers.
Inland navigation
Our brand-new quay in Beverwijk was completed in February 2005. Surrounded by a fenced and paved site, the draught in front of the quay is an amazing 8 meter, which allows for the transhipment of sea vessels. Individual transportation flows currently total 1,000 tons via inland navigation to Antwerp. If these loads were to be transported by road, it would require 40 trucks. This is an example where inland navigation obviously offers the best solution for the customer.
Our new All-Weather Terminal has been completed in Maastricht. A wonderful transhipment centre, it boasts a 7,000 m2 interconnecting hall. Protected from wet and windy weather conditions by the roof that stretches across Julianakanaal, we will tranship your products from inland navigation vessels. The Julianakanaal offers direct access to the Rotterdam and Antwerp harbours.
Container Terminal Beverwijk
Our confidence in the advantages of inland navigation inspired us to become a 50% shareholder in Container Terminal Beverwijk right from the start. Container Terminal Beverwijk is specialised in transhipping and storing sea containers, before they are transported to the Rotterdam and Antwerp harbours by means of inland navigation. Loading and unloading the inland navigation vessel is carried out by means of a specially adjusted Reach Stacker. The paved and secured site measures no less than 10,000 m2.
Rail transport
We expect the costs of rail transport to fall in the near future. With the railroad network opening up to several commercial rail transporters under political pressure, increased competition will result in lower rail transportation rates and a better service. With increasingly higher national toll costs such as the LKW-Maut introduced on 1 January 2005, rail transportation offers a good transportation alternative. In Maastricht the tracks can be extended onto our site, and even into our warehouse. For the rail transportation we are expecting the Western Europe - Eastern Europe connection to expand further.
